New shapes can be generated by adding shapes together or subtracting one shape from another. Another possibility is to add several images together to create a combined form. The first two collages are examples of this.
The second group uses the process of subtraction. A positive image is subtracted out of the composition, leaving a negative space. The lack of detail gives an unexpected focal point.
Work by TC3 students Gabrielle Schneider, Mary Ann Willams, and Zach Holmes, Fall 2019, Design I.
Inspiration for these projects from the book Project:Collage by Bev Speight.
